NASCC Round 1 – The Shake Down
The official start of the NASCC road race season - Round 1.
From the outside looking in, a race car is a simple task to prepare. Throw some bars into the car for safety, add some race suspension, and then throw in a fast motor... Go out and drive, easy - right?
If only that fantasy was true. The reality is that every second counts on the track and so every millimeter of the car counts as well. The behind the scenes involves countless hours and sleepless nights putting a race car together.
We arrive at technical inspection and unload the race cars. The first race of the season always starts like an old western. As we unpack everyone gives that icy cold stare as they measure the race cars up.
The first race is always a shake down both for the driver and the race car. It's not often that we have the opportunity to test the vehicle on the track ahead of time.
The NSX in this case has only been to the dyno to break in the motor and engine tuning. Will it survive the track?
For the Honda/ Acura geeks:
- 1992 NSX - NA1
- 1993 Integra GSR - DA9 Picture of the black sheep below
- 1993 Civic DX - EG6
- 1994 Integra RS - DC4
- 2000 Integra Type R - DC2
20062002 RSX Type S - DC5
Yup, once a black sheep - always a black sheep. The DA9 sat in miata land - queue in the hairdresser jokes (I kid).
The obligatory drivers meeting - You don't win the race at the first corner...
The disclaimer, it's tough balancing race life.
